Carved Bottle in Dark Clay with White Glaze #2
This bottle begins with a rich, dark clay body that is carefully carved by hand, creating a textured pattern that wraps around the form. After the first firing, a soft white glaze is applied and gently wiped back so that the glaze settles only within the carved lines. It goes back to the kiln. This process highlights the design with subtle contrast while allowing the natural depth and warmth of the dark clay to remain visible.
The result is a tactile surface where smooth white glaze gathers in the carved texture, standing out against areas of exposed dark clay. The interior and lip of the bottle are finished with a glossy white glaze, creating a smooth, clean surface that contrasts beautifully with the textured exterior.
Both functional and sculptural, the bottle can be used for olive oil and comes fitted with a pouring spout for easy, controlled use in the kitchen. It also works beautifully as a small vase or decorative vessel when not in use.
